Pain is a complex and deeply personal experience that can significantly impact your quality of life.

Yoga for persistent pain care with Sally Gardner is a trauma-informed practice which aims to help you to reduce your experience of persistent pain, improve mobility and increase strength by combining modern somatic movement, mobility and pain science with therapeutic yogic practices. All sessions are personalised and adapted to support your physical, mental and emotional well-being.

Blending the practices of yoga with contemporary methods and pain science helps to empower you with knowledge and techniques that can support you in living with less pain, improved movement and more in harmony with your body-mind. This practice helps to retrain your nervous system, which can aid in reducing pain or discomfort and form new connections to recover from injury and build resilience.

This approach is suitable for just about anyone; it doesn't matter if you have never set foot on a yoga mat, as yoga for pain care encourages us to cultivate connections between movement, breath and awareness at a pace that is comfortable for you. In addition, this approach considers the multidimensional aspects of health and well-being, and can easily be integrated with medical care and therapies.

Your personalised programme rests on four pillars which are designed to fully support you in your journey:

ENLIGHTEN

By working together to learn about your pain experience and understand your pain system, its complexity and often unpredictable nature, we can come to understand more about your individual experience and the best way to approach it so that you are equipped with all the right tools to reach your goals.

EXPLORE

We will delve into a range of practices, such as somatic yoga, breathwork and yoga nidrā meditation, which tackle stress, anxiety and low mood, improve mobilisation and sleep, and support nervous system regulation. The practices used are all personalised and adapted so that they are suitable for you.

Warm Up

EXPRESSION

Creative expression, communication and enjoyment not only motivate you to remain committed to the programme but also support your emotional well-being and encourage you to move beyond your persistent pain.

EMPOWERMENT

The aim of this practice is always to get you back to a life you love with a lot less pain and empower you with methods to manage your personal pain cycle so that you can continue to live your life to the fullest well into the future.

WHO IS THIS PRACTICE FOR?

The therapeutic applications of yoga are for anyone seeking to take control of their pain and get back to living a full and active life; whether that’s enjoying sports, playing with your kids/grandkids or being able to walk to your local shops or even the end of the street. If you live with persistent pain, which has remained for more than three months, possibly even years, then I encourage you to get in touch. This can be anything from persistent neck, back and knee pain from an old injury to complex regional pain syndrome (CRPS) and fibromyalgia. We will work together to create a positive action plan to support you in reducing your experience of pain and moving towards the things in life that bring you joy. Progress may not be linear, and it will take time and commitment, but change is possible!

A polite reminder that a doctor or qualified medical professional must diagnose all medical conditions.
